In winter (November – February) you can get up early, drive to Blue Spring State Park, and see lots of manatees! It’s a great trip with many opportunities for photos. The manatees winter in Florida along the St. John’s River. Since the spring enjoys a constant temperature of around 72° the manatees relax there until the river warms up. They swim into the river to eat and come back to the spring to warm up and feed their babies.
The best time to see manatees is early in the morning (before 8:00 a.m.) when the air temperatures is below 50°. You can even call the park ahead of time to find out how many manatees they have counted in the spring that morning.
